Welcome to the website of artist Vicky Cull
I am interested in mass produced imagery and manipulating and re-working these. My work discusses the personification of moments in time. Taking 'ordinary' images and making them beautiful, glamorous, even if the original subject matter is either bland or grotesque.
I am very interested in maps and plans, knowing where you are physically in the world. I make work about places I have lived, the places I live now and the places I would like to live. I use the tourist postcard as my starting point for these works, something that is readily available and more often than not, slightly altered/faked in some way. I have also been looking at places I would not like to live; Chernobyl, the twin towers, death row and places I cannot live as the events have already passed; J.F.Kennedy's funeral. Making these images resonate to new manipulations be that collage, print, photography and embellishments.
I am interested in taking the supposed 'ordinary' and making it 'extra-ordinary'.
